Love people, teach them to cook tasty food.
Tasty Salty Real is a scratch cooking education start-up business. Our mission is to connect you to your food source, and empower you with skills that will help make you less reliant on food assembly kits or other convenience food. Both myself (Kamea) and Alex have been professionally involved in small scale agriculture for 6+ years. Thorough the process of becoming familiar vegetable and herb growers, we had to learn how to cook with raw ingredients that align with the seasons of the Pacific Northwest.
I personally would not have been able to adapt my cooking in this way if it were not for the foundation of basic home cooking skills laid down for me by my grandmother and mother.
Too many adults don’t have this same foundation of skills. And without that foundation we cannot expect individuals to financially support sustainable agriculture, incorporate more plants into their diets, or feel welcome in the small scale food community.
We want to change that.
Tasty Salty Real will be an online trove of recipes featuring ingredients fresh from my own gardens, as well as from the fields of my farming colleagues. The site will also contain many tutorials catered to different cooking skill levels.
Regular cooking classes offer an opportunity to connect in person and to engage with experiential learners like myself.
From the basics of a stir-fry order of operations, to an inspiring new way to prepare beets; we invite you, our readers, back to the kitchen.
